Lots of Editing

My drawing altered with different filters.

It sure has been awhile! Starting today I’ll be posting on Thursdays once again, yay! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. Though I have been away from the blog, I did a few things over my break so I thought I’d share them today. ~

My drawing altered in Picsart.

Portraits

I’ve always been drawn to nature but I don’t often take pictures of people. A few family members saw some of my photography during my break and they offered me a job, to take senior pictures for my cousin. We had fun and I learned a lot about how to take good portraits.

I ran into a few problems during this experience though. One problem I was having was that the coloring kept turning out too red/orange. I found out it was because of the many shades of red in the frame. Editing the red tinted ones was an interesting endeavor, but we all thought it looked a lot better after the edits.

Another problem came up when I was going through the pictures. A few of them had extra background noise that took away from my cousin. So I had to play around on my free Photoshop program, GIMP. Along with taking out the green chair, I also edited the reflection in the windows, Darkened the background and redrew the street. I honestly had a lot of fun with this and look forward to trying out more portraits in the future. I think my favorite part was learning more about my cousins. I also enjoyed the research process of finding new ways to approach my subjects, whether it is a person or thing in nature.

More Editing

I had a point during the break where I was feeling stifled and insecure with my drawings so I edited a few free drawings by other artists. Most of them were done on the PicsArt app on my phone. The original owner of the drawing on the left is from a Picsart’s artist “@eoaneh.

The #freetoedit pic on Picsart is the left. My rendition of it is to the right.

I follow an artist on Baylee Jae’s Youtube channel every once in awhile and finally visited her website, http://www.bayleejae.com/. I browsed around her FREE Coloring Pages and got the pic above. My version is to the left.

Updating My Own

When I was finished editing the previous pictures I created the top two pictures in this post. Sometimes our creativity comes back after playing around with something different. Lastly, I felt like this picture was missing something so I decided to give it a new background today.

I’m still not sure if I like it but I’ll sit with it for a bit ;).

Okay that’s enough for this week. More to come soon, see you next Thursday!

  1. So interesting to see the changes that occurred with the editing. Seeing the changes that occurred makes for a way of understanding what editing also does in writing. Fun to see the evolution of the changes.

    • Thank you Dara! With art and pictures I like to see the process as it evolves. I sometimes wish writers would show a bit of their process too, I tend to understand anything better when I see the “in between” or before/after. I know that is what rough drafts are for, but if I actually saw why they chose something different I could get a better understanding on how to write more efficiently. (Have less rough drafts lol).

    • Any writing or expression of art kind of starts off with a mess of everything. The process of editing refines the subject out and shapes the very core layer of what was meant to be “told”. Its like diving into a pool and bringing up something that was barely visible from the surface. It becomes tangible above the water… Pretty cool, thank you for sparking that insight ;).
