Exciting News and Something New

So today I went to the Art Center in my hometown (Battle Creek MI.) to see if my art could be in one of their upcoming fundraisers. I thought my heart art would fit in perfectly for their event ,”Heart of Art,” and just to see what their response would be, I brought along some of my other art as well .

I had no idea what to expect, but their reaction towards all of my art was better than I ever could have imagined! Not only do they want my art in the Fundraiser but they would like it in their gift shop as well!

When I drove home and settled down a bit, the confidence that was welling up from what they told me inspired me to finish this piece below.

I’ve been playing around with this one for a few weeks and today I think I completed it! The story of how this piece was started and finished was pretty funny to me. I actually found the frame for this piece first, then built the gal second. When I put just the head in the frame today it felt incomplete. It needed something… something behind it. I looked around and thought “Ohh this cottonwood leaf would be perfect! That and its the same type of leaf her face was made from! Ohhh and it even looks like a heart behind her!!”…. lol, yeah I get really excited when things fall into place 😉 ❤ .

I haven’t been doing this type of nature art for very long but I really enjoy it and like where it’s taking me. I’ve been trying to come up with a name for it but have been having a hard time figuring out if it’s a type a sculpture, craft, or something completely different. All I do know is that when I showed just the head to a few women at the Art Center today, they seemed to like it quite a bit. When they said “you should keep doing what you’re doing, this is something new and refreshing” I thought my heart could have exploded from all the encouragement. ❤ So I think I’ll follow their advice and keep it up ^_^ .

See ya this Saturday for the next new post!

Keeping Busy

This past week I’ve been having fun drawing and editing.

After posting all my new creations to Facebook, I decided to check my email…

I received a notification from the people that organize the Spring and Fall art walks, and now I am nervous!

Which art form should I show, should I do them all, how will I look to the public eye, do I have the money!?

(insert last week’s reminder),

Yeah I think I’ve got this, lol.

One thing I am having trouble deciding though, is should I show all my art forms/ the nature art/ or Springiest photos(flowers). What do you think? Here are a few examples of each:

The good thing is that I have 2 months to prepare and this time I will use it. I’ve already got some stuff from the previous Fall into the Arts, so now prints have to be made for the framed ones and a different display needs to be thought up. Oh and if you want to check out and vote on more of my art, head to my Facebook Album. Wish me luck and thank you for your votes!

Embraced Within the Fog

A Choice

I was driving home after a wonderful morning with a friend when I noticed how much the fog had enveloped everything. I thought how cool the pictures would be at the arboretum. Almost passing up this moment because I didn’t have my good camera, I decided my phone’s camera would be good enough. The moment was here and I didn’t want it to slip away  just because the pictures wouldn’t turn out “Perfect“. I’m glad I did because I would have missed out on soo much fun and love.

Towards the middle of my adventure I made one of my famous snow hearts ❤ ❤ Odin had a good time too 😉 ~ ❤ We even came across deer tracks, which Odin followed enthusiastically. The rest of my time out and about though was pretty much absorbed in silence.

When I left the arboretum I picked up where I left off at home. I grabbed my camera and went out to my favorite spot.

My connection with this tree is beyond words ❤ ! I’m not sure which one I like best, lol.

A Reflection From Nature

The top left was at the end of the day at my mother’s house. At any other angle this rock looks nothing like a heart! The top right and bottom left were after my favorite tree. The last heart is a deer’s footprint in the snow, at the right perspective 😉 .

As I walked back nature reflected my snow heart, from earlier, back at me four times the amount of love that I gave ;). I’m really glad I didn’t let the fear of my phone’s camera not being good enough get in the way of all that I experienced today. If you ever feel the need to capture or express anything, take that moment…. the choice is yours~ ❤ !

Give Love Project’s Fourth Year

2nd yr. winner Jennifer Bradshaw with her family beach heart “Nature Love”.

Though I am still going to be away from the blog for a bit, I didn’t want to miss posting about “The Give Love Project.” Plus the annual Give Love Project is on it’s fourth year! I couldn’t miss that 😉 .

Starting now until the 29th of this July, make a small or large art project expressing some form of love. Take a picture of your creation and leave it where others may find it. You can use chalk, sticks, stones, leaves, flowers, mud, pine cones, or anything else that will not harm or damage the environment. You are welcome to share your pictures to the links near the bottom of this post.

Project Details

  • When: From June 23rd until July 23rd.

  • What: For an entire month I challenge everyone to create love for others with a small or large art project expressing some form of love. Remember to snap a pic and write in of your experience. You may send in as many photos as you wish. There are more examples in Heart Art Series. I found another good one on Pinterest.

  • Where: Create your piece anywhere as long as it doesn’t interfere with laws or is harmful for the environment.

*Because of recent events there won’t be any prizes this year, but I hope that doesn’t stop you from creating your nature heart. ❤ *

A Change of Plans

Sometimes plans don’t always go the way you want them to. Our Winter Nights Drive to look at Christmas lights got canceled due to last minute changes, so I decided to tap into my creativity to pass the time. One night of play turned into a week of different art projects~ ❤

The heart picture above was carved out of a fallen pine branch over 3yrs ago. It needed a touch up so I shaved it down to give it a better shape.

I happened to look down at my desk and captured this picture with my camera. I find natural layering fascinating. I have pictures of my trip to Asheville, North Carolina under the glass to my desk. I needed better lighting while carving so I brought my lamp closer to the table. You can still see shavings from my carved heart.

I played around with watercolors on a new type of paper made out of rocks instead of trees (Mineral Paper). This is not a good paper for watercolor, but I wanted to test it out for myself lol.

Here I had put a piece of glass over my original drawing and colored with a different color to give it an underwater feel.

With this past week being Christmas I did a few personalized gifts. This one was for my boyfriend’s brother, I drew him as a Pokemon trainer with his favorite Pokemon, Squirtle.

This one was for his dad, I made a portrait of his fur-boy Johnny.

Hopefully I will keep up my artwork on into this week and those to follow, it was fun to feel like myself again ^_^.
